Phoenix reinforced concrete caissons under construction in C Lock, Portsmouth Dockyard. The photographer is looking east-by-south from the north side of the seaward end of the lock. The light cruiser Achilles (1932) can be seen alongside the promontory in No. 3 Basin in the background. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P209/43 has been written in the bottom left corner of the negative.
