The former hopper barge W24 (Persephone) (1938) in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
A port broadside midship detail of the former hopper barge W24 (Persephone) (1938) alongside a jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard, taken from the quayside. Everything forward of her oerlikon gun platforms and aft of her bridge is out of the picture. She has been fitted with a 48 feet diameter drum to lay Hammel cable pipe under the sea. This vessel was named Persephone at some time during the conversion. A paddle tug, either the Grappler (1908) or the Sprite (1915), is berthed outboard of her.
