Phoenix units under construction in C Lock, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
Four Phoenix reinforced concrete caissons under construction in C Lock, Portsmouth Dockyard. The main 'hull' of each unit is complete and the construction of the 'superstructure' on each unit is well under way. A large number of floating pontoons are in the lock. The lock is flooded and the photographer is looking east-by-south from a crane on the north side of the east end of the lock. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P19/44 has been written in the bottom left corner of the negative.
