The stern frame of the light cruiser Hawke at No. 5 Slip, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
The stern frame for the light cruiser Hawke being swung into position from alongside No. 5 Slip in Portsmouth Dockyard. The lift is being undertaken using a derrick post and triple pulley block from which two wires are shackled to the stern frame. Five men are on the keel blocks ready to guide the stern frame into position. No. 3 Smithery is in the right background and a destroyer is berthed on North Corner Jetty. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P98/44 has been written in the bottom right corner of the negative.
