Inside a spigot mortar equipped assault landing craft in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
Looking aft along the troop deck from the bow of a spigot mortar equipped assault landing craft in Portsmouth Dockyard. The craft is fitted with four sextuple batteries of spigot mortars and is classified as an LCA (HR), the HR standing for Hedgerow, which is an adaptation of the Hedgehog anti-submarine mortar. The mortar bombs were intended to clear a path through a mine strewn beach, both above and just below the water's edge. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P144/44 has been written in the bottom left corner of the negative.
