Admiralty Floating Dock 11 (1924) in Fountain Lake, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire.
Looking west along the length of the floating dock AFD 11 (1924) from the centre of the walkway at the east end of the dock. The dock is moored in Fountain Lake, Portsmouth Dockyard. The floor of the dock is cluttered with wooden towers, steel reinforcing, scaffolding, timber, concrete rubble, crane jibs and railway tracks, the aftermath of the construction in the dock of phoenix floating caisson units. A large number of men are working to clear the chaos. There are a large number of landing craft and other vessels, including the training ships Foudroyant (1817) and Implacable (1800), in Portchester Creek and Fareham Lake in the background. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P159/44 has been written in the bottom left corner of the negative.
