The damaged LCT 854 (1943) in the Tidal Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire.

On board the tank landing craft LCT 854 (1943) which is berthed alongside North Corner Jetty in the Tidal Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, looking forward along the tank deck from the wheelhouse. The tank deck is full of debris, including three burnt out Bren carriers, having been hit by a German shell while beached at Ouistreham on 6 Jun. 1944. The shell destroyed an estimated six tons of mortar shells that were in the Bren carriers. The ship was able to raise her ramp and sail back to Portsmouth under her own power. On her bow ramp she appears to have the number 876; why is not known.
