A close view of the port propeller and shaft of the minelayer Apollo (1943) in dry dock, Portsmouth Dockyard, taken from the bottom of the dock looking to starboard. All three blades of the propeller are badly damaged. A man is up a wooden ladder checking the rudder pintle. On 7 Jun. 1944 the Apollo (1943) was carrying staff officers of SHAEF, including General Eisenhower and Admiral Ramsay, on a tour of the Normandy assault areas when she ran aground and damaged her propellers and starboard A bracket. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P237/44 has been written in the bottom right corner of the negative.
