On board the United States destroyer Nelson (1942) on North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard looking forward along the port side of her upper deck amidships showing her corrugated deck. Her stern was blown off by a torpedo from the German motor torpedo boat S.138 off Omaha Beach, Normandy, and temporary repairs were undertaken in Portsmouth Dockyard to enable her to get to Londonderry.
