The torpedo damaged corvette Pink (1942) in No. 8 Dry Dock, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire

The damaged aft end of the corvette Pink (1942) in No. 8 Dry Dock, Portsmouth Dockyard, taken from directly abaft the stern. The hull between frames 87 and 97 has been badly damaged and the entire stern aft of frame 97, including the propeller, shaft and rudder, has been blown off. The minesweeping LL reel is also missing. Ratings and dockyardmen are clearing some of the wreckage and a group of four naval officers, including two RNVR lieutenants, are having a discussion on the port side of what is left of the quarterdeck. None of the superstructure is in the photograph. The Pink was hit by a Gnat acoustic torpedo fired from the German submarine U 988 off Normandy on 27 Jun. 1944. She was written off as a constructive total loss.
