A damaged 15 inch gun barrel in the Gun Barrel Park, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
Looking at four large calibre gun barrels in the Gun Barrel Park in the north-east corner of Portsmouth Dockyard from near the muzzle of one of the guns. The nearest gun has its breech plate attached. The next gun is 15 inch calibre and has a fractured jacket. This gun was the right gun from the monitor Roberts (1941) which had fractured its jacket off the Normandy beaches on 6 Jun. 1944. The jacket was kept in place by strapping it with wire rope and the marks made by the rope can be seen on the jacket.
