The damaged repair ship Albatross (1928) in a dry dock in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire

On board the torpedo damaged repair ship Albatross (1928) docked down in a dry dock in Portsmouth Dockyard. This shows severe damage in a crew space on the lower deck looking towards the port side and no work has yet been started to clear the debris. Crushed boxes of Kellogg's Wheat Flakes can be seen near the top of the picture and a pile of duffle coats are in the bottom left. The ship was hit by a torpedo off Ouistreham and the forward third of the hull was flooded. Towed to Portsmouth for repair but repairs not fully completed. Negatives numbers N25654 to N25663 inclusive may all be taken in one large crew space, possibly No. 2 mess.
