The construction of a new caisson for Singapore's King George VI Dry Dock in A Lock, Portsmouth Dockyard. The photographer is looking east-south-east from the north-west corner of the top of the lock. The main plating appears to be complete. Two scotch cranes have been erected on either side of the lock at the east end and one of them has "Makers Anderson-Grice Co Ltd, Carnoustie" on it. A track-mounted scotch crane in the lock is being dismantled. Berthed in No. 3 Basin is the Ranpura (1924) undergoing conversion to a heavy repair ship.
