The construction of a new caisson for Singapore's King George VI Dry Dock in A Lock, Portsmouth Dockyard. The photographer is looking north-west from the south side centre of the top of the lock. The main plating appears to be complete and riveters are working on the flat decks. Berthed in No. 3 Basin is the Ranpura (1924) undergoing conversion to a heavy repair ship.
