The construction of a new caisson for Singapore's King George VI Dry Dock in A Lock, Portsmouth Dockyard. The photographer is looking north-west from the south side centre of the top of the lock. The main structure is substantially complete and guardrails are being fitted to the top of the caisson. Berthed in No. 3 Basin is the Ranpura (1924) undergoing conversion to a heavy repair ship.
