The construction of a new caisson for Singapore's King George VI Dry Dock in A Lock, Portsmouth Dockyard. The photographer is looking north-west from the south side centre of the top of the lock. The main structure is substantially complete and guardrails have been fitted to the top of the caisson. A tarpaulin screen has been erected at the base of the caisson. A scotch crane is on the side of the lock. Berthed in No. 3 Basin is the Ranpura (1924) undergoing conversion to a heavy repair ship.
