Steel plating from the wreck of the German battleship Tirpitz (1939) in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
Two pieces of steel plating salvaged from the wreck of the German battleship Tirpitz (1939), sunk in Tromsöfjord, Norway, photographed in Portsmouth Dockyard. Printed on the top steel is the note "Tirpitz - stiffener to deep transverse frame 10" x 15 lbs" and "Rider plate 5½" x 20 lbs, zig-zag intermittent welds". Noted on the bottom piece is "Tirpitz - part of transverse frame from which stiffener has been pulled, 10 lbs plate" and thed annotations "line of stiffener" and "zig-zag intermittent welds".
