North Wall, Fountain Lake, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
Looking east-by-south along North Wall in Portsmouth Dockyard from Asia Pontoon. The remains of the destroyed Fountain Lake Jetty are prominent. On the left is the east end of Admiralty Floating Dock 11 (1924), in which the aircraft carrier Illustrious (1939) is undergoing a refit. In the background is the Round Tower, a mercantile steam collier is alongside Flathouse Quay and the Rudmore gasholders are beyond. No. 3 Basin and the gas works are on the right.
