A group of seamen and a supply petty officer guiding a cargo net loaded with catering stores onto the port side of the upper deck of the light cruiser Belfast (1938) in Portsmouth Dockyard, taken from a lighter close alongside, looking forward. The stores are packed in wooden cases and are 1 lb tins of Nestle's Ideal condensed milk. A stack of cases on the deck on the right contain 1 lb tins of baked beans. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register lists this series of negatives as "HMS Belfast recruiting campaign".
