Loading a BTH transformer aboard the Toward (1947) in No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
An 82 ton British Thompson Houston transformer being lowered by the 240 ton hammerhead crane on the Promontory in No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, into the hold of the Clyde Shipping Co's vessel Toward (1947) which is berthed outboard of a Wave class fleet oiler berthed on the south side of the Promontory. The photographer is looking down from the deck of the oiler. A 600 Group of Companies lorry and a large rectangular wooden container are stowed on the deck.
