Photographic print
An uncaptioned black and white portrait photograph showing multilingual sign positioned across a street. The sign is rectangular and divided in two. The side of the sign to the left of the image has dark lettering on a light background, reading 'KORIA WHORE HAUSE [presumably mispellings of 'KOREA' and 'HOUSE'] / AND BAR DRINK BEER / ' [illegible] HU TUNG / KIN SENKAN'. The side of the sign to the right of the image has light lettering on a dark background written in Chinese characters. The sign hangs across a street, buildings on the two sides of which are just visible. A man, possibly in some form of uniform, is walking away from the camera. Telegraph wires are attached to the middle of the sign and telegraph poles are visible in the background.
This photograph may relate to so-called 'comfort women' (Korean women forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military authorities during the 1930s and 1940s).
