Victoria Terminus in Bombay
A black and white landscape photograph showing the facade of Victoria Terminus [now Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus] in Bombay. The central tower and dome, clock (its hands at about 3:15) and main entrance are visible in the centre of the image. In the foreground, a tree can be seen the left of the image and a man, wearing a dark-coloured hat and an overcoat, is walking in the middle the street. Behind him, around seven pedestrians, several motorcars and some form of animal (possibly a cow) can be seen further along the street, closer to the entrance. On the right side of the photograph, a sign with 'THE GAIETY CINEMA' is visible. Bombay was the official name of Mumbai until 1995, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was formerly known as Victoria Terminus. Original caption (handwritten beneath in ink): 'VICTORIA STATION, BOMBAY.'
Victoria Terminus railway station was renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in 1996.
