John Jervis, Earl St Vincent

State before letters. An oval bust-length portrait of John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent (1752–1820) in admiral’s full-dress uniform, 1795–1812, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath. The portrait is surrounded by a thick frame. This portrait was engraved by G. Cook after a version of William Beechey’s oil painting of c. 1801. The prime version of the painting is in the Guildhall Art Gallery but this print is based on another version, which was owned in the mid-nineteenth-century by Admiral Sir William Parker, as noted in the print’s inscription. The print was published by Richard Bentley in 1851. For the lettered state, see PAD3367. (Updated June 2019.)
