'Portrait of Charles I'
Reproduction of a portrait of Charles I by Van Dyck (made circa 1632-35), now in the Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden. The King is facing left and is wearing the star of the order of the Garter on his left sleeve.
Pupil of Rubens, Van Dyck was made ‘principalle Paynter in ordinary to their Majesties’ in 1632 and soon became one of the leading portrait painters of his age.
