Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill in Barbados
A black and white portrait photograph of a wind-powered sugar mill. The mill, which is broady conical, is mostly built of mortared stone blocks, with an arched opening at the base. It has a wooden roof and wooden sails, which facing away from the camera and roughly to the right of the image. A chute or similar structure protrudes from its roof and runs towards another building or group of buildings on the left of the image. One building has a smoking chimey and a pile of what is probably sugar cane outside it. There is a patch of ground between the mill and the camera. A person in light-coloured clothes and a hat can be seen standing on this group. They are holding a two-wheeled handcart with 'W. FORGE' on its side. Original caption (handwritten beneath): 'AN OLD SUGAR MILL. BARBADOES.'
