Remington Rolling Block

Remington rolling block pistol. The pistol is half-stocked with a flared butt (no cap) secured by steel strips back and front. The lock is a Remington rolling block in two parts. The hammer has a knurled spur with half and fully cocked positions. The block is lightly spring-loaded and contains a striker, with a knurled protrusion on its right side and a notch for a rear sight on top. It is moved to the rear to permit the loading of a single round and then pushed forward to close, but not to lock the breech. It can only be moved when the hammer is at full cock. The breech is locked shut when the hammer has moved forward to engage the rear of the striker in the block. The entire lock is enclosed within a case-hardened steel box, the trigger within an oval trigger guard. The barrel is of circular section with large blade foresight and rifled. The Calibre is 0.5in. The left side of the lock is inscribed 'REMINGTON'S ILION N.Y.USA PAT MAY 3D NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH'.
