Punch and Judy puppet: the policeman

A glove puppet policeman, part of a Punch and Judy set belonging to puppeteer Peter Butchard (1909-2009). The puppet has a painted head and hands held on by nails. The body is made of unlined blue wool fabric, machine sewn. The figure wears a leather belt with a wooden truncheon, and a roughly painted leather helmet, with a chinstrap. The brass buttons on the uniform are indicated by eyelets. The face has a painted moustache. There are sergeant's stripes on the arm, indicated by a white cotton patch marked with felt tip pen.
