Axe
An axe from Papua New Guinea, made of jadeite? Collected by Capt H.J.O Millar RN while in command of HMS 'Torch' 1903-5 on the Australian Station. Old catalogue entry says comes from Tari Tari. It would originally have been fixed to a haft. In 1903 HMS 'Torch' took Major General Edward Hutton (1848-1923) to British New Guinea via Thursday Island to carry out an inspection of imperial defences.
