Box
Wooden box from Tokelau, with a lid carved from a solid section of tree trunk. Lugs on either side are bored with a hole for a length of plaited fibre attaching the lid. A similar stepped lug in the centre of the lid. Identified by Dr A.L. Kaeppler. 'The decorative arts of the Mariner' ed. Gervis Frere-cook p. 263 calls this a fisherman's box. It was used for carrying fishing tackle and also known as a Tuluma.
