Mauser Model 1898
Mauser Model 1898 rifle. The stock is made of wood partly encasing the barrel and it is fitted with a lug for a bayonet. The pistol grip is cut beneath the bolt knob as a relief and pierced behind the wrist to secure a sling (missing). Bolt action and a five shot magazine. The magazine wholly contained within the body of the rifle. The barrel is rifled and fitted with a blade foresight mounted on a ramp and a tangent curved rearsight. The calibre is 7.92mm. Stamped on the rifle is the following: 'S/42 1938' an eagle over a swastika, the serial number '3694, MOD 98' an eagle and swastika over 'M' (Marine). An eagle and swastika over 'W--63' are also stamped on the butt.
