Shell damage suffered by HMS Warspite at Jutland

A view from the dockside of the port side of the forward embrasure abreast 'A' turret, showing damage suffered by HMS Warspite (1913) on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The man to the left is standing beside the entry hole of a 12 inch shell. To the right near the other two men is the mark of a shell which hit the main deck armour belt and disintegrated. This photograph was taken in No.1 Dry Dock at Rosyth. For another view of this hit see N16500.
