Oval blue enamel gold diamond pendant bearing the crowned cypher of Tsar Alexander II of Russia

Oval gold pendant, decorated with blue enamel. The pendant is further decorated with the depiction of the crowned cipher of Tsar Alexander II, which is executed in diamonds. The pendant also has a border of 44 graduated, rose-cut diamonds and is fitted with a gold chain, which is not contemporary. The pendant is contained within its original folding case.

Tsar Alexander II (1818-1881) presented the pendant to the Astronomer Royal, Sir George Bidell Airy (1801-1892).
