Pocket chronometer in 18ct yellow gold case, now mounted as a carriage clock. Thirty hour duration, single train, gilt brass four pillar fusee movement with Arnold type spring detent escapement and Arnold type Z balance. Seven turn helical blued-steel balance spring with terminal curves. Engraved balance cock with diamond endstone in blued-steel screwed setting. Harrison's maintaining power. Jewelled to the fourth wheel. Flat white enamel dial with Roman hour numerals. Signed under XII with the words 'HARE LONDON'. Subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o'clock with Arabic ten second numerals. Gold arrow hands with gold seconds hand. Gilt brass rim cap. 18ct gold pair case, hallmarked 'London 1798-1799' with makers cameo stamp mark 'R G'. Stamped incuse '969'. Scratched marks 'P535', '3254m', '4843o', 'CM17.8.77'. Engraved on outer case with the words presented to Lieut W.J. Hamilton of the Honble Comps Armed Schooner Alert for his service in preventing the escape of L'Hirondelle French privateer in Decbr 1801 by the Calcutta Insce Office Calcutta Insce Company Calcutta Phenix Insce Society Asiatic Insurance Company & Hindostan Insce Society'. Flattened stirrup bow with long round section pendant. Convex glass over dial. Watch now mounted in a carriage clock style gilt metal case (circa 1860). Two piece construction with an engraved gilt brass mask and carrying handle. Similar inscription to above printed on gold coloured paper secured into rear glazed panel of clock case. Case stamped 'II'. There is an accompanying letter dated 27th December 1819.
