The Tourist's Journal...(entries for southern England and Normandy)

Printed commercial pocket book, 'The Tourist's Journal with ruled columns for expenses and a suitable space for Observations / New Edition / London/ printed for Samuel Leigh, 18 Strand'.
There are rough pencil landscape sketches by Stanfield in the front flyleaves, inc 'Castle Inn' (? Dover) and figure sketch apparently of a seated seaman in the back cover. In the rear is a rough sketched map of the Isle of Wight and Solent sketched. About 4 pages of writing have been torn out at front leaving undated note of expenses from London to Abbeville via Calais (Sunday); total for travel, dinner etc £18-10-6 in pencil by CS on next page. Remainder unused; 13 x 8cm blue paper boards, leather spine and corners. Sound, but rubbed. Nice period ‘travellers’ vade mecum', albeit little used. From the studio collection of Clarkson Stanfield RA, acquired 9.04 (Bagshawe Collection).
