Caribou sinew thread, with an associated label inscribed: 'Rein-deer sinew prepared as thread by the Esquimaux used in the Arctic Overland Expedition under Sir J. Franklin 1823.' Associated with Franklin's first overland expedition of 1819-1822. Indian women and the wives of the Canadian voyageurs made clothing and moccasins for the expedition, particularly during the winter of 1820-1821 which was spent at Fort Enterprise.
