Despatch balloon messages
Two balloon messages printed in black ink on red silk. Both messages read: ‘Despatched…by a Balloon from / H.M.S…./ In Lat… N., Long…W.,…/ To Sir John Franklin.’ Used on the Franklin search expedition led by Sir Edward Belcher, 1852-54, in HMS 'Assistance'.
