Overall

Belonged to Engineer James Wootton and used on Nares' Arctic Expedition of 1875. Canvas overalls or snow repellers for keeping fine powdery snow out of the woollen clothing worn underneath. Top with hood, trousers, mittens on straps. A picture of a lighthouse and a red ensign painted on the back of the jacket designed to protect against snow blindness. Hand sewn, with horn buttons.
