Medal commemorating the Antarctic exploration, voyage of the 'Vostok' and 'Mirny', 1819-22. Obverse: Head of Czar Alexander I (right). Legend in Russian (Alexander the First, by the grace of God, Emperor of all the Russias). Reverse: Inscription in Russian (The sloops, 'Vostok' and 'Mirny', year 1819). These two small vessels commanded by Commodore Bellingshausen made a voyage to the Antarctic regions 1819-21.
