Eugenie Helmet
Belonged to Engineer James Wootton and used on Nares' Arctic expedition 1875. A balaclava helmet knitted in ribs in dark maroon wool. These caps were presented to the expedition by Empress Eugenie of France. The owners slept in them and wore them under thick seal skin hats when sledging.
