Medal commemorating John Jervis, Earl St Vincent (1735-1823) and the Battle of Cape St Vincent, 1797. Obverse: Bust of John Jervis (three-quarter right), hair long, full uniform, under the coat, ribbon of an order over right shoulder. Star on the left breast, with an anchor in centre. Legend: 'EARL ST. VINCENT.' Below: 'DEFEATED THE SPANISH FLEET.' Reverse: Two cherubs, blowing trumpets, fly over the sea, supporting the British Ensign between them; one holds an Earl's coronet over the flag. Legend: 'VALOUR REWARDED'. Exergue: 'FEB 14 1797 FOUR SHIPS TAKEN OFF CAPE ST VINCENT'.
