Earl of Auckland (1848)

Scale: 1:48. Drawing showing the sheer lines, body plan and longitudinal half breadth for Earl of Auckland (1848), a three-masted 147ft screw steamer, built by Money & H. L. Wigram, Blackwall for the General Steam Shipping Co. Ltd.

Inscription: "Launched August 17-1848".

The 'Mechanics' Magazine and Journal of Science, Arts, and Manufactures', Volume 49 (1 July-31 December 1848), page 451, records the ship was the first of a new line of steam ships to run between London and the Mediterranean. The 60HP auxilary engines were made by Messrs Maudslay, Sons, & Field. The ship achieved 9.5 knots during trials along the measured mile in Long Reach, the Thames.
