Medal commemorating the opening of the Kiel Canal, 1895.

The obverse depicts Neptune seated on a rock with a trident in his left hand. In the distance behind Neptune is the entrance to the canal, shipping and lighthouses (left and right). On the reverse is a ribboned floral wreath supporting three shields (left, right and below), with a crown above. The inscription within reads, 'ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DIE ERÖFFNUNG D . NORD-OSTSEE-CANALS 1895.' (In commemoration of the opening of the North Sea Canal.)
