Medal commemorating the return home of Lord Nelson, 1800. Obverse: Bust of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) (left), with pigtail. Full uniform, ribbon and star of Bath, and medal round neck. Legend: 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON.' Reverse: Nelson's ship nearing the shore, on which Britannia holds out a wreath towards him, spear in her left hand. Near her an altar inscribed: 'AUG . 1 1798.' An anchor and the union shield lean against it. Legend: 'HAIL! VIRTUOUS HERO. THY VICTORIES WE ACKNOWLEDGE AND THY GOD.' Exergue: 'RETURND TO ENGLAND NOV 5 1800.'
