Gold, 'Ministry of Marine & The Colonies' lifesaving medal. Obverse: Head of King Louis Philippe laureate (left) Legend: 'LOUIS PHILIPPE I ROI DES FRANCAIS'. Reverse: Within an oak wreath. Legend: 'MINISTERE DE LA MARINE ET DES COLONIES'. Inscription: 'A. G. D. SANDERS. OFFICIER DE LA MARINE ROYALE BRITANNIQUE COURAGE ET DEVOUEMENT POUR SAUVER DES MARINS FRANCAIS NAUFRAGES 1834'. Inscription on box lid; 'FRANCE. G.D. SANDERS OFFICIER DE LA MARINE ROYALE BRITANNIQUE 1834'. Fitted with a loop and ring in an octagonal box with piece of watered silk ribbon, light blue with yellow edges.

Awarded to coastguard, Lieutenant George Douglas Sanders RN (1794-1839), posted to Holy Island in 1829, died ln 1839, St Germans, Cornwall.
