Hezzanith Bubble Horizon Sextant

The sextant has a grey-lacquered alloy frame and a wooden handle. The alloy micrometer drum, pressure clamp and worm screw are positioned on the back of the index arm. The instrument has three green index shades and no horizon shades. Index- and horizon-glass adjustment is made by capped capstan screws.

Attached to the sextant is a prismatic telescope, 147mm in length, with an inverted image and four cross wires. It is mounted to the frame and is non-adjustable. Accompanying the instrument is a battery, a brush, a glass eyedropper, a spare light bulb, and two rubber washers. The telescope incorporates an artificial bubble type horizon and a detached lamp (with an on-off switch) with a battery holder that can be mounted to the telescope for use with the artificial horizon at night.

The instrument has an alloy scale from -5° to 120° by 1°, measuring to 116°. Micrometer to 1 arcminute.

The sextant is contained in a square fitted wooden box, with a Heath and Co Ltd certificate of examination in the lid, dated January 1946.
