Jar with lid

Trafalgar centenary commemorative tobacco jar and lid. The body is in colour-glazed stoneware. On a mottled green background are three relief modelled medallions coloured pale green with a profile portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), his coat of arms and a naval battle scene. All are framed with rope twist. Between the medallions 'Ns' with naval crowns above. On the green panels is inscribed 'LORD NELSON', 'BORN . 1759', 'DIED . 1805'. The Trafalgar signal runs around the rim on a green band: 'ENGLAND . EXPECTS . EVERY . MAN . WILL . DO . HIS . DUTY'. The Royal Doulton mark is impressed on the base.
