Jug
Toby jug modelled as a full-length figure of George V (1865-1936) in naval uniform, enthroned and holding a globe. The throne has the Union Flag on the right side, the Royal Arms on the left side and is carved with lions. This is one of a set of 11 toby jugs depicting allied war leaders, based on sketches made by Sir Francis Carruthers Gould (1844-1925), a political cartoonist. The figure is glazed, gilt and painted. The base is printed with the maker's mark, a facsimile signature of Carruthers Gould and the name of the retailer - Soane & Smith Ltd, 262 Oxford Street, London W1.
