A dimple whisky bottle containing a model of the schooner 'Kathleen and May' 1900. The topsail schooner is shown in a rough sea under sail. The bottle has a Turk's head knot round the cork in synthetic fibre cord. A label inside reads 'God protect the KATHLEEN & MAY Scale 0.75mm / 1ft 1978 '. The cork has a medallion mounted on the end depicting a galleon inscribed 'DEVS SALVA NOS'. The bottle is moulded on the base 'A660 R14 HAIG'S GB'. The model is wooden with paper sails and sewing thread rigging.

The schooner 'Kathleen and May' was built in 1900 at Connah's Quay on the Dee estuary in North Wales. Her original name was 'Lizzie May'. She was employed carrying bulk cargoes (mainly coal) in the coasting trade. In 1908 she was bought by an Irish owner and her name changed to 'Kathleen and May'. She was based in Youghal until 1931 when she was bought by Captain William Jewell of Appledore, Devon. Re-rigged as a sail-assisted motor vessel she continued in commercial operation until 1960. She spent a period in the care of the Maritime Trust from 1970 and is now in private ownership having been extensively refitted.
