Presentation Sword Scabbard
Scabbard for presentation sword, which belonged to Captain James Analby Legard (died 1869). The scabbard comprises a wooden sheath, covered with light blue plush. The reverse of the scabbard bears the inscription 'Salter, Sword-Cutler to the Duke of Sussex, Corner of the Adelphi, 73 Strand, London'. The scabbard has two gilt lockets with rings and a gilt chape, all highly decorated. The top locket is embossed with an oval containing a depiction of the slaying of Medusa. The mid locket is embossed with an oval containing a depiction of Mars. The chape is embossed with an oval containing a depiction of Perseus.
