Ruins of Alexandria 11 July 1882

A red board covered, gold embossed album with loose covers and a broken spine. Some of the pages are loose and the card pages are fragile. The album contains 56 albumen prints glued in, mostly contemporary copy prints of photographic prints by Luigi Fiorillo.

The album includes portraits of: Sir Garnet Wolseley, Admiral Sir Beauchamp Seymour, Araby Pacha, and Ismael Pasha, the 'S.A. le Vice-roi'. The rest of the album is a photographic record of the damage sustained at Alexandria from the British ship-based bombardment of the city in July 1882. Many of the Fiorillo prints have captions in French at the bottom, as part of the print.

All of the photographs have been copied and there are NMM Studio negatives of D2061-D2116.
